J.R. Koontz Flowers has been a Wichita fixture since 1974. In more than 33years the business has grown through outstanding service, design and merchandising.

A native Wichitan, J.R. Koontz graduated from Wichita schools and attended Wichita state University from 1963 to 1969. He is married to April, who is active in the business, and together they had three children.

Over the past forty (40) years, J.R. has established him self as one of the nation’s top floral designers from the industry. He has earned prestigious qualified designer recognition from the American Institute of Floral Designers (AIFD), which has a selective membership of approximately 900 designers worldwide. J.R. was elected by the regional membership to the AIFD South Central Board of Directors. In 1992, he placed seventh in the America’s Cup Competition from an Initial field of over 125,000 entrants from the United States and Canada. He was awarded the Canadian Academy of Floral Arts Award. In 1999 he was recognized as one of the top 5 designers in the nation. He is in constant demand as a guest speaker, commentator, designer and educator at floral shows, competitions and exhibitions.

Starting in 2002 J.R. noticed the Byrd Snodgrass Funeral Home at 633 N. Broadway was for sale, after much deliberation and negotiation; he purchased the building in February of 2003. He is a firm believer in trying to preserve our city heritage. Part of our facility is over 100 years old and the new part is over 50 years old. This building occupies half a city block, with ample parking.

With this new location we are maintaining our central location, easily excusable to all major Highways. We look forward to serving our community in this new location.
